Trusted contacts: who to pick, and why the email matters

The best trusted contact isn't the person you love most: it's the person who answers the phone at two in the morning. Someone who tends to be up late, lives nearby, or simply looks at their phone.

Two or three is plenty. A long list dilutes responsibility: when everyone assumes someone else will answer, nobody does.

When you add someone, they get an invitation they must accept. It used to be enough to type a phone number, and that person found out they were your trusted contact the day your live location arrived unasked.

Confirming also proves the email is really theirs. A one-letter typo used to send your trips to a stranger — and, in an emergency, the alert reached nobody.

You decide, contact by contact, whether we tell them when each ride starts and ends or only when there's an SOS. Those with the app get a notification; those without get an email.

At the end of the ride your screen tells you who was told and through which channel. If someone got nothing because they have neither email nor an account, it says that too — exactly what you need to know before next time.

A trusted contact sees the ride while it lasts: where you are, your driver's first name and a partial plate. They don't see your history, your saved addresses, or what you pay.

You can remove anyone from the list at any time, with no explanation.
